The Buffalo Sabres have finally reached an agreement on Jack Eichel.
The pending trade with the Vegas Golden Knights includes Eichel and a 3rd round pick in the 2023 draft for Peyton Krebs, Alex Tuch, a 1st round top-ten protected pick in 2022 and a 3rd in 2023.
Eichel is expected to have the disc replacement surgery he wanted after being checked into the end boards in March, herniating a disc. The Sabres disagreed over his decision, suggesting he have the disc fused because the surgery has never been performed on an NHL player. He is expected to return to the ice by the end of February due to the Olympic break.
With five years remaining on his eight year, $80 million contract, Eichel was about to reach a no trade clause next summer. He was recently stripped of his captaincy before the start of this season after serving as captain since 2018.
The 25 year old was selected second overall in the 2015 draft. He has 355 points (139 goals and 176 assists) in 375 career NHL games. He had two goals and 16 assists in the 21 games played last season.
Tuch was selected 18th overall by the Minnesota Wild in the 2014 draft. The 25 year old right wing has 61 goals and 78 assists in 255 career NHL games. He has yet to play this season after undergoing shoulder surgery in July.
Krebs was selected 17th overall by Vegas in the 2019 draft. He has one assist in 13 career NHL games. Last year the 20 year old center suffered an ACL tear, missing most of the season. He is currently pointless in nine games with the Golden Knights this season.
