Kevin Fiala back to Minnesota

ST PAUL, MN - MAY 26: Kevin Fiala #22 of the Minnesota Wild celebrates with teammates after scoring a goal during the third period against the Vegas Golden Knights in Game Six of the First Round of the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs at Xcel Energy Center on May 26, 2021 in St Paul, Minnesota. The Minnesota Wild were able to sign a one year deal with Kevin Fiala for 5.1 million today,  bringing back a top six forward the team desperately needed. The unrest between Kirill and the organization has put a stress on the fanbase and this quick deal was great to see.

Fiala was acquired via trade from the Nashville Predators and for the last two years has been a big part of the Wild’s offense and special teams. He seems like a guy who has been in the league for a long time but truly Fiala is only 24 years of age. With only a one year deal Fiala will be pushed to outperform his previous years as he tries to lock down a great contract next off-season.

When assessing the trade made back in February 2019 it’s pretty clear that Minnesota has come out the most beneficial. Minnesota sent Mikael Granlund to the Nashville Predators in exchange for Fiala in a one for one deal. Fiala has tallied 101 points in 133 games played since joining the Wild. Granlund has only scored 62 points in 130 games for Nashville.

Fiala will slide into the top 6 this season regardless if Kaprizov returns to the team or not. Don’t look now but Bill Guerin has been able to keep a lot of key pieces this off-season as well as having a solid incoming draft class. He has one more hurdle to climb with getting Kirill to return to Minnesota but once that occurs look for the Wild to make some noise in the Central Division.
