Hit the Ice: Training Camp Starts Now

Training camp starts on the 22nd, and so much is still up in the air for the Senators.

Pierre Dorion feels “the rebuild is done” (B Garrioch [Twitter]). After adjustments and the draft that we’ll be able to challenge for the 2 points every night we have skates on the ice.

I’ve been a fan since they played at Landsdowne and moved into the newly built Corel Centre… I’ll believe it when I see it. Knowing the difficulty that Eugene Melnyk places on decision and refusing to loosen his coffer to get and keep players that are instrumental to the team’s gameplay, it’s hard to believe. Only training camp and regular season can prove it.

Larger Issues at Hand

For now we can focus on other things that are bringing questions. Brady Tkachuk for one. This season becoming a restricted free agent, and putting 36 points on the board for Ottawa last season and now averaging 42 points a year, Pierre Dorion will have his hands full resigning this 21 year old to the roster. As the fourth pick in the 2018 draft, Tkachuk will be highly sought after especially doing so well with a team in a rebuild and coming second in shots on goal in 2020-2021 with 220, and second in hits with 248.

Dorion states they’ve “had really positive talks,” with an interview on The Fan 590 nearly a week ago. But with no breaking news, and training camp looming… no news is certainly not good news. Could be Tkachuk’s first hit of the 2021-2022 season? Pierre Dorion and Eugene Melnyk need to take that shot.
