Takeaways

Mikko Koskinen is quickly proving that he wants to be the starter for the Edmonton Oilers. He is now 7-0-1 in his last eight starts, with back-to-back stellar starts (44 save win against the Florida Panthers Saturday). Mike Smith has been injured multiple times this season and has struggled mightily when he does play. It’s nice to see Koskinen look confident in the crease and have the team feel the same about him.

Leon Draisaitl and Auston Matthews (TOR) are in a head-to-head race for the Rocket Richard Trophy. When one guy scores, it seems like the other answers back the next night. Both Draisaitl and Matthews are tied for the league lead with 37 goals apiece, with Chris Kreider (NYR) trailing with 34.

The Oilers opened the scoring with a powerplay goal, but it looked rather unimpressive. The usual dangerous powerplay went just 1 for 5 with no assertiveness to score shown.

Up Next…

The Oilers will continue their road trip to visit the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday night.
