The New Jersey Devils will be without forward Miles Wood for the foreseeable future. The team announced Monday that the 26-year-old had surgery to fix a hip issue that has kept him out of the lineup this year since the preseason.

Up to this point, the Devils are missing Wood’s presence as a bottom six forward. The lack of depth scoring has hurt the team mightily in a few games this season. Wood also possesses a unique skillset of grit and blazing speed that only few players in the entire league have.

The timing could not be worse for Wood who is in the pivitol last year of his four-year contract. Wood’s unavailability means New Jersey will have a tough time evaluating his value and what his next contract should look like.
