Oilers Start the Big Guns for Joey Moss “Tribute” Game

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - FEBRUARY 16: Leon Draisaitl #29 of the Edmonton Oilers celebrates his third period power-play goal with Connor McDavid #97 against the New York Islanders at the Barclays Center on February 16, 2019 in the Brooklyn borough of New York City. (Photo by Bruce Bennett/Getty Images)

In the first ever game against the Seattle Kraken, the Oilers are icing what will be very close to the opening night roster.

Not only is it the first game against their new Pacific Division opponent, but it’s also a special night in the dressing room. The team unveiled a new plaque of the late Joey Moss. He was the Oiler’s locker room attendant for more than three decades and loved by every player that played for the team.

Joey Moss was known for his enthusiasm, how much he loved the Oilers, and his high-fives for every player walking out onto the ice. Joey is obviously greatly missed but giving the players that opportunity to still give him his high-fives is an awesome tribute to his life and something the Oilers players that knew him will love.

The Lineups

Edmonton Oilers:

Hyman – McDavid – Puljujarvi

RNH – Draisaitl – Yamamoto

Perlini – Ryan – Turris

Benson – McLeod – Sceviour

Nurse – Barrie

Broberg – Berglund

Niemelainen – Bouchard

The Oilers are starting most of their “big guns” tonight, because of the Joey Moss plaque unveiling. It really shows what he meant to the guys in the locker room.

Big names missing are: Duncan Keith, Warren Foegele, Cody Ceci, Zack Kassian, Devin Shore and Kris Russel.

Dave Tippet mentioned that he wants to get the McDavid and Draisaitl lines together so they can get some work on their top power play unit.

Oilers fans probably won’t see any of the bigger names again in pre-season for at least a couple games. It’s nice to see them get some work in but pre-season is really for the younger guys to try and earn their spot.

Seattle Kraken:

Johansson – Geekie – Lind

Donato – Jarnkrok – True

Tanev – Sheahan – Appleton

Bastian – Henman – Twarynski

Borgen – Oleksiak

Evans – Dunn

Carrick – Lauzon

Only thing I would’ve liked to see with Seattle’s lineup is to have Jordan Eberle and Adam Larsson dress. Two guys who were with the Oilers quite sometime and I’m sure who have great appreciation for Joey Moss.

Game time is 7pm M.T. at Rogers Place in Edmonton
