Sharks prospects Ben Gaudreau and Brandon Coe named OHL Goaltender and Player of the Week

This past week was a big one in the Ontario Hockey League for two San Jose Sharks prospects as Ben Gaudreau was named Goaltender of the Week and Brandon Coe was named Player of the Week.

Ben Gaudreau, drafted in the third-round by the Sharks with the 82nd pick in the 2021 NHL Draft, had an outstanding week in net for the Sarnia Sting. Gaudreau posted a record of 2-0-1-0 last week with a 1.97 goals against average and a .942 save percentage.

The 18-year-old netminder also recorded his first career OHL shutout last week against the Owen Sound Attack, saving all 26 shots that he faced in a 4-0 win. Gaudreau ended the week saving 97 of the 103 shots that came his way over a three game span.

The Corbeil, Ontario native has a 5-2-3-0 record this season in the OHL with a 2.98 goals against average to go along with a .912 save percentage in 10 games played this season.

Paired with Ben Gaudreau being honored as OHL Goaltender of the Week, Brandon Coe also represented the Sharks by being named OHL Player of the Week.

The Sharks’ 2020 fourth-round pick, selected 98th overall, recorded three goals and five assists to give him eight points in three games last week.

In all three of last week’s games, Brandon Coe had multi-point outings, leading the North Bay Battalion to three-consecutive wins. The Ajax, Ontario native is also currently riding an eight game point streak and is leading the OHL in assists with 24.

The 20-year-old winger has 9 goals this season to go along with his 24 assists, giving him 33 points in his 19 games played. Coe’s 33 points are currently the second most in the OHL, only trailing the leader by a point.

With Coe leading the charge, the North Bay Battalion currently sit in first place in the OHL’s Eastern Conference.
